Ptosis
What is Ptosis, and how does it affect you?
It's a medical word for a drooping eyelid.Ptosis (pronounced ``toe-sis``) is a condition in which there is drooping of upper eyelid.Ptosis is a condition due to malfunctioning of the elevator palpebrate superioris (LPS) muscle, which is responsible for raising the upper eyelid.
Causes
It can be congenital or acquired
Symptoms
Ptosis is characterised by a noticeable drooping of the upper eyelid. Ptosis can result in a cosmetic difference between the eyelids or give the patient a ‘sleepy' appearance.
Treatment
Ptosis repair can be surgical or medical. Ptosis repair is a simple surgical operation that involves strengthening the eyelid-lifting muscle. This can be done from the inside of the eyelid or via the skin of the eyelid.
