Myasthenia gravis (MG) tests are used to diagnose the disease, which is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes muscular weakening all over the body. An autoimmune disorder is a condition in which your immune system mistakenly attacks your own cells, tissues, and/or organs. If you have MG, your immune system produces antibodies that block or alter the nerve-muscle link. MG affects your body's voluntary muscles. You can choose to move these muscles. Eyelid muscles are frequently the first, and occasionally the only, muscles to be affected by MG. Muscles in the mouth, neck, and limbs may be implicated as well. Muscles that control breathing may be impacted as well.
